As long time purchasers of many Hydro Floss instruments, the doctors of Clarksville Dental Center have been most pleased with the results. The Hydro Floss instruments are an important part of our soft tissue management program. The effectiveness of oral irrigation is witnessed every day through satisfied patients who have established and maintained their periodontal health without surgical procedures. Our non-surgical program has been an important practice builder and when we must perform surgical procedures the patients are more receptive and compliant. Using the Hydro Floss also speeds their post operative recovery.

Bottom line, our periodontal patients are advised we will not be responsible for their periodontal health unless they use their Hydro Floss at least once daily. My research background prior to entering dentistry has taught me to be critical of all manufacturer’s claims, however, the Hydro Floss^® has proven it’s efficacy in my own oral hygiene. I have also provided dozens of my patients, including family and friends, with the Hydro Floss^® and instructed them to follow the protocol listed below.

• Clean your mouth in your isial manner (brushing, flossing and rinsing)
• Then use the Hydro Floss and upon expectorating observe the additional material which had remained

Clinically I have observed (without statistical evaluation) the resultant effect of continued use: reduced bleeding, reduced erythema, reduced inflammation and reduced pocket depth.

Here is my testimony. Two years ago I had 5mm and 6mm pockets around my molar teeth. My dentist asked if I had thought about having periodontal surgery. I said, "No, but I think I will try something else first." I had Hydro Floss^® units in my office so I started using one every morning – with only water in it. At my recall appointment recently, my dentist said my sulcus depth is now 3mm – maybe 4mm in one spot, if he pressed hard. The bony pockets have filled in, my gums don’t bleed anymore, and they look great! I can’t say enough about the Hydro Floss^® preventing me from having periodontal surgery. He says he now has over 100 patients using the Hydro Floss^® because of what he saw happen in my mouth, and he won’t start a new perio patient unless they agree to purchase a Hydro Floss^®.  He is Dr. David Lawler here in Bloomington.

At our MESOGP orthodontic study club meeting in Evansville in March of 1996 I stood up in front of about 45 members and told them about the Hydro Floss^® and how it had prevented me from having perio surgery. At our March meeting this year Dr. Dewain Kramer stood up and told this story about one of his patients. He had referred this patient to a periodontist because of his severe periodontal problems. The periodontist recommended removing one molar and doing a hemi-section on another. The patient returned to Dr. Kramer and asked if there wasn’t something else he could do. Dr. Kramer paused a second and then said, "I know this crazy dentist who comes up with some weird ideas once in a while, and maybe one of them will help you." The patient started using a Hydro Floss^® three times a day for five minutes at a time. In six months his gums and bone had healed to the point where Dr. Kramer was able to make a bridge for him and place a crown on the other tooth. He did not require any extractions. WOW !!!! What do you suppose he thinks about the Hydro Floss^® ?

Hydro Floss^® is incredible! I first heard about it during a seminar on bad breath. Recently I had a complete cosmetic rehab by Bill Dickerson at the Las Vegas Institute. While I was in temporaries, Bill insisted that I use the Hydro Floss^® every day to prevent bleeding at the delivery appointment. We were both amazed at the outstanding health of my gums after 4 weeks in temporaries! No bleeding whatsoever! I have a story that you might want to share. It concerns a patient in her early thirties whom I have been treating for periodontal disease for about a year and a half, unsuccessfully. Carol came to me first about January 1991. She presented as an attractive young housewife with two young children. There were no real stress factors in her life. But she presented with heavy generalized calculus deposits and moderate to severe bone loss that had already resulted in migration of teeth and diastema formations in several anterior areas. Her main concern was cosmetics at the time. She was highly teachable and highly motivated to do whatever it took to save her teeth, once I had explained the seriousness of her problem to her. 

Carol was the model patient. I placed her on a rotary appliance twice a day, flossing twice a day, and inter dental stimulators five times a day. Her compliance was incredible. I scheduled appointments for periodontal scaling and root planing under local anesthesia. In one month her gums were in almost incredible health. Almost. But upon periodontal probing they still bled. Every three months I had to numb all of Carol’s teeth to root plane them, and while her compliance continued to be incredible, I just couldn’t get rid of that little bit of gingival bleeding on probing. We bonded the diastemas, adjusted the occlusion, and got her in great shape – almost. In June 1992 she came in early for her periodontal maintenance visit, because she was having some little problems. Before treating her, I periodontally probed all her teeth – and got the usual bit of bleeding. Feeling a little dejected I told Carol that we were losing the battle to save her teeth if we couldn’t stop that bleeding. At this time she was still using the rotary device twice a day, flossing correctly twice a day (I checked her technique,) and using gum stimulators twice a day. 

I had just received my own Hydro Floss unit the day before. It was on my desk, still in the package. On impulse I asked Carol to take my unit home with her, use it according to instructions for thirty days and come back for full periodontal probing again. She added the Hydro Floss to her already busy daily dental maintenance. When she returned in thirty days, the first thing she said was, "I want to buy this Hydro Floss. I LOVE IT!" I sat her down and proceeded to perform the most amazing periodontal exam I can recall doing in a LONG time. I couldn’t find even ONE SINGLE BLEEDING POINT in her mouth. Naturally, she got MY Hydro Floss and I started prescribing them for lots of patients, especially problem patients. I would recommend that all my colleagues maintain records of similar cases in their own practices. The Hydro Floss unit can be a wonderful adjunct to their own periodontal therapy – but why just use it on the hard cases? For roughly the cost of a three-surface amalgam a patient can have the best periodontal preventive available. PREVENTION is truly one step closer to reality than it has ever been before, thanks to Hydro Floss.

I have dispensed Hydro Floss in my office since 1990, recommending it for patients with orthodontic appliances, periodontal disease, implants, and those unwilling or unable to floss due to physical disabilities. I also have found it useful for those patients who are unwilling to spend time flossing. I have no idea just how many of these units have passed through my hands since 1990. I have one, everyone in my family has one, and I’ve given one to all

of my staff, in addition to countless patients. In all that time I have only had one return, and that was this year after Father’s Day. A lady bought one for her husband, and she says, he just doesn’t like anything to change and so didn’t like it. Since I had never had a return, I never had paid attention to the large print on the box giving unconditional returns, but when I called your company no one complained or asked why. A call tag was immediately issued and the unit picked up the next day, with a replacement arriving soon thereafter. That’s great service. Thanks!
